Had a great stay! Breakfast had good options with an exceptional view. The front desk staff was very welcoming and efficient despite having had technical issues the day of my arrival. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen had pretty much everything I needed.

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal, charming Funchal is the capital of Madeira Island. It's an important base for tourists from all over the world that come to the Madeira hotels, B&B’s and resorts to enjoy their cliffs and beaches, as well as the island's slopes and colorful towns.
Founded in 1424, its location allowed it to quickly become an important trading harbor, attracting many prominent families. Its mild weather was the beginning of its touristic development in the 18th century, with a therapeutic and health profile.
With the establishment of the port first, and Madeira International/Funchal Airport later, the city grew to become a major destination. Nowadays, the city concentrates most of the hotels, luxury resorts and casinos on Madeira. Accommodations located in Santa Cruz, near Funchal Airport, are also available for those trying to avoid the rush.
Don’t miss a long walk around Sé historical district, and enjoy the Santa Clara Convent and the Sé Cathedral. The Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro Park and the Mercado dos Lavradores are also a must.
Whether you need an ocean-view villa or a small guesthouse, Booking.com has a wide range of Funchal accommodations.
There is plenty to see and do in Funchal. Withing the old town you will find many restaurants along with shops and the old market.
Moving around the south of the island using the public busses is very easy, if you plan to do this, we would suggest buying a multi-day travel tickets for the duration of your stay: available at kiosks on the front at Funchal. Google Maps worked very well with planning trips using the local transport. Travelling to the north of the island we found hard to organise using the public transport is not easy, our suggestion would be to hire a car for these trips or join one of the organised trips which we did avoiding parking issues at the popular locations.
If you plan to walk the lavedas, plan you trips ahead of arriving on the island to avoid frustration when trying to work out where to join/exit the walks.

We really liked Funchal!
We really liked Funchal! HOwever, most accomodations are very noisy because of the road traffic, scooters, shouting people on the street, etc. so one has to really choose wisely!!! Funchal offers a lot, mountains, gardens, elevation gain, boat tours, festivals, nice people and food, and calm atmosphere.

I found Funchal town to be very clean and larger than expected. Interesting older part but generic modern area which was less interesting. Nice sea front and beautiful town park. The cable car up to the gardens at Monte Palace was a nice experience. We enjoyed a long levada walk in the mountains and catamaran boat trip along the coast and saw dolphins. There is much more to explore so I would like to return to the island in the future. Perfect weather and temperature for an active holiday.

Tourist advice was plentiful and very well spoken staff.
Tourist advice was plentiful and very well spoken staff. Bus services on time and frequent. The majic dolphin boat for whale watching and free spirit for mountain hikes.
Red wine so low cost and great quality. Local pizza not so good go to Pizza hut on the seafront. Very freindly people and as an ageing human all young people were very polite on transport services.
Great atmosphere, good climate although a little humid at times but a very generous island that keeps on giving surpridse after surprise.

Beautiful place, it takes about half an hour in Funchal to be totally relaxed. Amazing food, great weather, incredible views at every turn and wonderful friendly people. A place to keep coming back to.
Last year, ASPA became my favourite accommodation in Madeira. Since then, this is my third visit. The self check-in is easy, the studios are comfortable and well decorated, and the bathrooms are super stylish, in a vintage look.
ASPA is not a hotel, is a home, and that is what I love about it. I feel as if I was part of the family or had spent my childhood here. Always leaving in a good mood.
Location is great, right in the centre of Funchal, at the corner of one of my favorite streets: Carreira Street.
I will be back soon!
The room was nice and the staff were lovely. The gym and pool facilities were great. Breakfast had lots of options and the pool bar had good food.
The hotel is about a 30 minute walk to the old town in Funchal. But there are good restaurants nearby. There are also grocery stores, pharmacies etc. There's actually a shopping centre about a 20 minute walk away. We would recommend O Dragoeiro for a nearby restaurant. There are some open air pools nearby and free public steps to the water where you can swim in the sea.
Our recent stay at this Old Madeiran villa was a mixed experience, marked by both its historical charm and several notable challenges.
The villa itself is a treasure trove of history, adorned with artifacts from the 19th and 20th centuries, offering a unique glimpse into the past. For history enthusiasts, this aspect of the stay was undoubtedly fascinating. Additionally, the presence of books and maps about Madeira's attractions provided valuable insights for our explorations.
This is a well run hotel and you can tell this by and mostly the staff training and the genuine service! Very willing and helpfull on any request... even a couple of days after check out! Super quality facilities, ideally located in the middle of everything in Funchal, spacious rooms, suberb value for money. The free on-spot parking and the hip and trendy roof top pool bar were the icing on the cake! Higly reccomended. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else next time in Madeira.
What an amazing hotel! The staff are so friendly and helpful, the service is fantastic. What you get included exceeds the price you paid as this is a stunning hotel with beautiful interior throughout. Location is great, right in the centre only a 5 minute walk from the sea front. The roof top bar and pool.. oh wow! Incredible views. Me and my family were so impressed we'd love to stay here again when we next visit Madeira.
Friendly staff! Very clean and beautiful gardens around the hotel. It's very obvious they pride in their work and work environment. Beautiful views of the city and free parking ☺️ Nuno is so helpful and friendly I really enjoyed learning about Madeiras. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Their brown labrador dogs Nikki and Sasha are so cute and friendly and love to play catch, if you love dogs go and see them.
This was a great hotel with great staff situated direct across from the ocean, and I had great views from my ocean view room. The breakfast buffet was great the days I had it, and was only +17EUR.
The rooms were great and very spacious with great and very comfortable beds and amazing rainfall showers in the bathrooms. I would definitely stay here again should I return to Madeira.
Everything, the room with an unexpected kitchen area, the balcony the great selection at breakfast, the pool, the outdoor area and the bar area.
Also the bus stop is right outside so only 10-15 minutes into central Funchal and a lot of the tours pick up from outside the hotel too.
When I return to Madeira I will definitely stay here again.
This hotel is in an ideal location in the centre of the old town part of Funchal. There is a very good breakfast at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and attentive. There is a dip pool and sunbed area on the roof and though never used an exercise suite on the 4th floor. I could find no fault during our stay at the hotel.
It was fantastic place with perfect location. Spacious, light, with big balcony with view at small garden and sea. Apartment has everything needed and even more. Host were very nice and friendly and very helpful with good hints and links about what to do and see in Madeira. Perfect place to stay and enjoy Madeira!
The apt is bright, clean, comfortable and quiet. Lynn is one of the best people I have ever met. Went out of her way several times to help a severely jetlagged woman who lost her luggage and left behind her coats. Thanks again.Hope we meet again. You know I will always stay at your place if I am in Madeira again.
Reception staff - Cesar was very helpful, providing maps, and relevant hotel and local information, providing a warm welcome, and booking taxis. The roof terrace and bar area were a pleasant retreat space, small but adequate. Excellent location for accessing Funchal centre, and opposite the public gardens.
Lovely place, located in a very good area of Funchal, near the old town center and the ocean.
Comfy beds, very clean and we also got our towels and bed sheets changed every 2 days.
I loved it and recommend it to anyone looking for a good and not pricey accommodation in Madeira paradise.
Very modern, clean and comfortable. Good location for exploring Funchal. Providing that you don't want to hire a car it's a very good town centre hotel. Good breakfast.
This hotel truly merits it's 5 star rating. If you want exceptional staff, food, bedrooms, pool areas etc this is the place to come. Close access into Funchal centre.
