FAQs about hotels in Faro

Colourful, Historic, and Sunny

Faro is the picturesque capital of the Algarve region, offering colourful streets and buildings, Moorish influence, and typical Portuguese charm. It is encompassed by the lagoon of Ria Formosa Natural Park, and offers wide beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and a vibrant nightlife.

Occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and once an important Roman harbour and Moorish culture capital, it was almost flattened by the 1755 earthquake. Happily, the historic centre survived and is today one of best preserved in Algarve. Choosing a hotel in Faro’s Old Town will allow you to have a more authentic Portuguese experience.

The long, sandy beach of Praia de Faro is 7 km from the city, and the beach on Barreta Island –also known as Deserta - is probably the most tranquil in the region. Hotels near the beach in Faro and the surrounding towns of Olhão, Tavira, Quinta do Lago, Quarteira and Vilamoura, are all excellent ways to enjoy sunny Portugal.

Faro International Airport offers connections throughout Europe, and the city also offers ferry, railway, and bus links. Whether you need a beach resort or a hotel near Faro Airport, check out the wide offer available on Booking.com!

Great for just strolling - some of the back streets are magical. People very friendly and very proud of their city. Take the ferry to Cacilhas and try one of the fish restaurants in the main village there. Go to tourist information and you may want to go further. In Faro we ate at 8 Tapas, the Tavern, and Velha Casa - just what we wanted with delightful staff. Octopus at the Tavern with two crazy waiters was superb.

I am certain I must have reviewed Faro before, but I doubt I will ever tire of the place so I guess whatever I say about it will always be through those eyes... A city, full of hustle and bustle and yet you can always find somewhere to sit, watch life and reflect... Storks are nesting everywhere, you can almost touch the Trains as they rumble through alongside the river, you can see the Airport and the centrally placed bus station will take you here there and everywhere... It has a proper old bit, with walls and everything, including nesting storks and gorgeous architecture... It has functional bits, the commercial centre, it has a Marina, it has culture, it is a proper City full of real life... You may have guessed already I love it 'ALL'... Alan

Compact and historical. easy to walk round the cobbled streets. Lovely old buildings in the old town, museum and cathedral worth a visit. Some good bars/reataurants. We love the one on the marina (O Cortona) Good food and service, excelent location. Best thing is it is next to the Ria Formosa natural park so plenty of wildlife, bird spotting. Boat trip is a must.

We were very pleasantly surprised with Faro, we initially picked the destination for convenience and some sunny weather but got a lot more. Plenty of restaurants and activities to keep us busy on our short stay. We had a excellent food four with a local guide, spent a lovely day on Faro Beach which was way beyond our expectations and visited a local winery for a tasting tour which was really nice and great value for money, Faro offer a variety of different restaurants , all great value

Faro was beautiful and so peaceful at this time of year.

Faro was beautiful and so peaceful at this time of year. More bars were starting to open up towards the end of my stay. The beaches were amazing. Ilha Deserta and Ilha Tavari are well worth a visit and worth staying a few hours to really enjoy them. I loved walking round the old town and plenty of places to take a rest and relax. I also really emjoyed being able to get to islands by boat and going to the beach by boat is far nicer than going on the bus (and not a long walk when you get off as there is with the bus). I didn't do the usual sightseeing places as I was there just to relax and destress. I enjoyed having lots of space on the beaches and the streets being queiter though still a bit busy. I could easily have spent another week exploring. The people are friendly and very polite. Cars stop to let you cross the road and it was like nobody was in a rush. Used the train to get to Tavari then got a boat out to Ilha Tavari. All the time I was in Faro I never felt unsafe and never got any hassle. I went out alone in the evening and felt comfortable. I would definitely recommend a stay in Faro. As the days passed I fell more and more in love with Faro. Great bus service, train service and ferry boat service - especially considering it was out of season.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Its a great location and the hotel is charming and old-fashioned but in a very nice way. The breakfast is good value at €8 with everything you could want from fresh fruit, ceral, breads hot eggs and baco, cold cuts and cheese, etc. The showers are hot and everything is very clean. The airport is only 5 minutes away but you don't see or hear the airplanes on Faro Island. Its a great place to go to when you first arrive and to have a few dayas on a great beach. Parking is free too.

We stayed in Faro for four nights, extending our stay two nights in this wonderful place. A refurbished old villa in the center of town offers the old-time charm of Portugal paired with modern amenities. The rooms are spacious and clean. There is a large kitchen area, a patio and a common area with a piano and a very coold 19th century safe. The proprietors however are the main reason this place rules: Pedro and Paolo are top notch people and very helpful in every way! We can only recommend.

Wasn't expecting much from the hotel or Faro as we booked it due to its location before our early morning flight out of Portugal but Faro is well worth a visit. Staff were very nice to deal with. Receptionist gave us alot of information about the rea. Hotel is in a great location where one can wander into the town and marina. The room and bathroom were very clean and spacious. Had tea and coffee facilities and a bottle of water. We didn't have breakfast so cannot comment.

The apartment is right on the beach facing the ocean and the view is amazing. The location was just perfect. It's extremely easy to access from the airport with the No 16 bus, dropping you off at the bridge of Praia de Faro, after that it's only a 5 mins walk to the apartment. Catarina who manages the property is very contactable by what's app and is always at the end of the phone. She is amazing. Thanks Catarina for making our stay so perfect!

Everything is perfect in that house, starting from the little corner at the entrance, then divided in different rooms, and ours was just perfect, even a balcony where you could enjoy a drink at night, very comfortable bathroom with everything you need. It was our last night in Portugal and we really enjoyed it there. I would definitely recommend and certainly come back again when in Faro.

Location, and the staff especially. Plus the food /breakfast was lovely ----lots of choice.. However, the tea /coffee machines were at a minimum. Could do with installing a few more machines cos it's frustrating to have to queqe so long--whilst your breakfast is getting cold. However, I would not hesitate to return to this fabulous hotel again, if I was returning to Portugal.

My friends and I decided to holiday in Faro ,Portugal from the 15th to 18th of August 2022 and we thought that Villa Lidia was a great option for its location and size seeing that we were six people. I must say that the house is lovely and its location near perfect,a few steps from the beach and with its back garden sitting literally on a ria( estuary)
