The Farmhouse Apartment is large and tastefully decorated. It has an outdoor patio and a BBQ. Free wifi. Surrounded by vineyards and fruit trees. 10 minutes to Braga and 20 mins to Guimarães. Virginia provides guests with a welcoming hamper on arrival. She also provides fresh bread rolls daily - brought by the baker. The pool is a one minute walk from the house - just follow the pergola - it's brand new (3 steps down a ladder to the water) and has a terrace around it, with sun loungers and tables and chairs. It's a pretty area, with stunning views. All lit up, including the pool at night. There is an extra BBQ and fridge here at the pool, so guests can spend quality time here. When guests go out for the day, the owners can use the pool. There are woodland walks behind the house. There is a good local restaurant 5 minutes from the house and plenty of cafes/restaurants/a spa in Taipas, 5 minutes away. The nearest town is Longos, down the hill. It has 3 cafes and 1 bakery. It also has a small supermarket. It is a safe location as it is walled in. It has stunning views and is beautiful by day and by night. If you like to be in the country but near culture and cities - this is perfect!
I am Northern Irish but have lived here in Portugal for 20 years. My husband is Portuguese and we have 3 children. I enjoy eating out, cinema and walks. My family live at the farmhouse, but our entrance is at a different side of the house to guests - everyone has their privacy, although you will see us around - not a bad thing, if you have any questions such as where to go next, where best to buy in a succulent pizza, which is the best market around. We have 2 dogs - a Golden Retriever and a Labrador - I take them for walks every day. if you would like to venture out, get to know the most scenic paths through the forest behind the house - then come along. I don't go too far...although I love photography so if it's a sunny blue skied day, I might stay out longer... There's a new Municipal Market in Braga - which you'll love. It looks beautiful and has everything - such a choice of meats, fish, fruit and veg, dried fruits.
There is a lot around here - churches, monasteries, historical sites (2 Celtic settlements 5 mins away). We're in the country but very near Braga and Guimarães (10/20 minutes). The beach is 35 minutes away and Gerês natural park is only 40 minutes away. We are surrounded by good restaurants and cafes. Taipas, 5 minutes away, is a spa town and has a wellness centre, offering massages, an indoor naturally heated pool with Turkish bath and steam room. There are various castles - one in Guimarães and one in Póvoa de Lanhoso and many palaces and museums. Taipas has a weekly Monday market and every town has their market day. Barcelos is the biggest, on Thursdays. Porto is only a one hour drive and it's possible to drive to the Douro and be back in time for tea. This is a very traditional farming community and so if you want to get to know the real Portugal this is a good place to be. The farm is set in the heart of the countryside but close to the towns of Braga, Guimarães, Taipas and only half an hour from the sea. The baker passes every day and leaves off fresh bread rolls - a treat (paid for by the owners)
