Monte Gordo is the Algarve's closest resort to the Spanish border. As such it attracts a mix of Portuguese, Spanish and international visitors drawn by the expansive golden sand beaches and the casino.
The beach of Monte Gordo itself is a huge stretch of powdery, almost white sand that extends for around 1.5km (1 mile), almost to the border with Spain. The central strip of beach in front of the resort is backed by a wide, flat promenade lined with tall palm trees along with a number of cafes, bars and restaurants. However, this soon gives way to extensive sand dunes at either end beyond which lies the pine forest of the Viveiro Florestal de Monte Gordo.
As a Blue Flag award winner you can rest assured that both the beach and the sea are safe and clean. During the holiday season the beach is supervised by lifeguards. You will also have no problem finding everything you need here from parasol hire to beachside dining.
The Praia de Monte Gordo is also rated as an accessible beach with level access from the promenade and an amphibious beach chair available for hire.
